SIDEWAYS
Cape/Poncho:
starts on
right-hand side edge the panels will be worked continuously in one
piece using
SHORT ROW SHAPING. Use claw weights to maintain tension on
the shaped section. The instructions below are fairly brief and are
of the form: [work n1 more sts every other row x1 times]. This
means:
1A.
With COL place RH ndls into HP, with the LH ndls for continuing even
sts in WP (if shaping is starting from the poncho bottom, there will
initially be no needles in WP).
1B.
*Next row: return n1 needles to FWP (latches open), work 1 row, wrap
the next ndl, work 1 row, returning to COL.
1C. Repeat from * x1 times.
2. Note that final REPEAT row and stitch counts for the
second half of poncho shapings are for when the ndls have been
placed in HP, but not yet worked. |
1. Cast on 50 sts
in WY, using KP2 and open edge method. Work 6 rows WY. COR. Change
to MY. Reset RC000. Start working Stocking Stitch.

NECK SECTION: From bottom of poncho start short row shaping as
follows. Put all ndls into HP. Work 2 more sts every other row 23
times, until 47 rows completed. Bring rem 4 ndls to FWP (latches
open). |

CENTRE PANEL:
Work even on all sts for 26 rows |

REPEAT FLARED
short row shaping in reverse (reducing number of sts worked),
starting at the top of the poncho and working back to the bottom,
until 117 rows completed. Push all HP ndls to FWP (latches open).
Work 1 row even across all sts. |

REPEAT
from * for a total of 4 panels. Total 480 rows. |

Do not cut MY.
Change to WY. Work 6 rows in WY. Remove sts from machine. |

HEM:
With the
wrong side of work facing you,
using
Size US3 needles
pick upevenly from
the bottom of the poncho 312 stitches. Work in 1x1 ribbing for
8 rows. Cast off loosely. |

FINISHING:
Graft or
sew the poncho together at the side seam. Check for fit at the
waist, and leave an opening at the top of the seam for a zipper or
other closure if necessary. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends. |
